The girls Suburban One League tournament finished its first round of games Friday night as Pennsbury fell to Neshaminy 45-33.
In their prior two meetings this season, Pennsbury (12-6) was victorious by one point in each: 42-41 in early December and 31-30 in mid-January. Coming off their first patriot division championship since 2018-2019, Neshaminy (17-4) was prepared to avoid a season sweep, and they did so convincingly.
Junior standout Reese Zemitis made her presence known from the tip, scoring nine of her 11 points in the first half. Her defensive prowess reigned supreme on multiple Pennsbury layups, sending them back with ease. Zemitis leads the team in points and rebounds this season.
The second half effort from Neshaminy was piloted by junior guard Lola Ibarrondo, who sped by the Pennsbury defense multiple times during her solo run of 9 straight Neshaminy points in the third quarter. She finished with 11 points.
Sophomore guard Alena Cofield helped put the game out of reach with a couple of pick-six style steals in the fourth.
Neshaminy will face off against Souderton in the second round of the Suburban One League tournament on Saturday.
