TRENTON, NJ. – Trenton Central kept their undefeated record intact as they rang in the new year with a convincing victory over Colonial Division rival Notre Dame by a score of 50-41.
The Tornados took a lead seconds into quarter number one and never looked back.
Though the Irish of Notre Dame refused to back down, generating a comeback that had their home crowd on their feet for the closing minutes of Friday night’s inter-division matchup.
The then promising comeback was driven by Notre Dame guard Chris Vlahos, as he scored 13 of his teams 27 second half points.
This included a 7-point run to begin the third quarter.
But his efforts were met with a rapid response, as Trenton Central guard Antwan Bridget hit back-to-back three point shots, giving Central an 8-point lead with 4-minutes remaining.
Bridget led his team in steals, limiting Notre Dame’s offensive chances. His presence was felt on both sides of the court.
But when it came to scoring it was business as usual for Central forward Chris Wilson.
Wilson entered the game leading his team in points and rebounds on the season. Against Notre Dame, the versatile wing amassed 16-points, all while guarding Notre Dame’s 6’7 center Stesh Mathelier.
