TRENTON, NJ. – A 3-point-shot from Lawrence guard Reilly Cahill tied things up with 3 minutes to go in Tuesday night’s game against Trenton Central, but the Tornadoes responded, finishing the game with a 16-to-2-point run, winning 55-41.
A second half surge brought on by Lawrence guard’s, Michael Boisselle and Elijah Robinson, put them in a position to upset conference title favorite Trenton Central.
But when the Tornadoes needed a run…they got it, as Central scored 16 unanswered points in the closing minutes of the game.
“We are going to be down in games this year, but this shows our chemistry and how well put together we are, we finished it out good,” said senior guard Brazil Fields.
Fields played a key role, scoring 12-points, 3 of which started the teams dominant run.
Central’s leading scorer on the season, senior forward Chris Wilson, was coming of the heels of a double-double against Holy Trinity Saturday afternoon.
His 14-points lead the team once again on Tuesday night, but Wilson was one of 7 Central players to find their way on to the score sheet.
“It helps the team when all 5 of us on the court can score, at all levels we can get a bucket when the time is needed,” said Fields.
As important as their ability to score in closing time was, the teams ability to shut down the Lawrence offense was equally as impressive.
“Coach was telling us to get up and get on our man. We play with pressure, so when it’s not there we aren’t there,” said Fields.
Lawrence now holding a record of 0-3, will hope to secure their first win of the season when they take on Robbinsville Thursday night.
Trenton Central will also be in action Thursday night, as they look to maintain their unbeaten record of 3-0, when they face West Windsor–Plainsboro North.
