FAIRLESS HILLS, PA. – The Pennsbury Falcons improved to 3-3 on the season by defeating the Council Rock South Golden Hawks Tuesday night by a final score of 47-30.
The Falcons were coming off a tough loss at the hands of the undefeated Bensalem Owls last Thursday and were looking to right the ship.
The game did not start out the way Pennsbury had hoped as they found themselves in a 12-5 hole at the end of the first quarter.
However, they were able to quickly turn it around, outscoring Council Rock South 20-7 in the second, which was capped off by a Ty Kocak buzzer beater three from well beyond the arc and took a 25-19 lead into the break.
Presumably, the message at halftime in the Golden Hawks locker room was to ratchet up their effort on the defensive end, as they came out in the third quarter and held the Falcons to just 4 points. In fact, they forced Pennsbury into more turnovers in the quarter, 5, than they had points.
It was a one-point game entering the fourth and was shaping up to be another game that would come down to the wire for the Falcons.
However, Council Rock South’s shooting was ice cold in the fourth quarter, making only one shot that did not come until the 1:06 mark. In the meantime, Pennsbury was able to knock down shots and consistently hit their free throws. They outscored Council Rock South 18-2 in the quarter and when the final buzzer sounded, the Falcons had a 47-30 win and a .500 record.
Pennsbury was led by senior guard Ty Kocak who scored a game high 15 points. Off the bench, junior guard Danny Cohen provided a spark, scoring 9 points which earned him player of the game honors.
“All season the coach has been getting on me to shoot the ball more, getting me to be more aggressive on offense, and today it was clicking and I got my shots.” said Cohen after the game.
The Falcons were also helped out tremendously on defense by sophomore guard Mike Roccograndi. He was consistently matched up on senior guard/forward Matt Robinson, the captain of the Golden Hawks, and held him to just 10 points, including zero in the final quarter.
Pennsbury will play host to the Council Rock North Indians on Thursday as they look to build off the momentum from this win.
